Interim ruling in İmamoğlu's diploma case: Documents requested

In the case regarding the objection to the cancellation of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma, the court has decided to request 36 separate documents from the administration and the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) in order to review the objection and reach a decision regarding the stay of execution.

In the lawsuit filed by İmamoğlu regarding the stay of execution of the decision to cancel his diploma, the court has requested 36 separate documents.

According to the report by Ali Macit from Sözcü, the ruling stated, "The Istanbul 5th Administrative Court, having examined the case file, has deliberated on the plaintiff's request for a stay of execution," and included the following objection from Ekrem İmamoğlu:

"The plaintiff, a graduate of the Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration, Department of Business Administration (English), asserts that the decision of the Istanbul University Board of Directors dated 18/03/2025 and numbered 3, which concerns the cancellation of his graduation and diploma due to alleged irregularities in his lateral transfer, is unlawful. He argues that the decision was not taken by the authorized body, that the lateral transfer was conducted in accordance with the legislation and conditions set by universities at the time, and that the defendant university's decision to increase quotas for lateral transfers and move the application deadline forward is not a fault attributable to the plaintiff. Furthermore, he contends that even without the quota increase, he would have been among the students accepted first based on academic ranking, and that there is absolutely no absence of legal basis or manifest error in the lateral transfer procedures; therefore, he requests the stay of execution and cancellation of the decision on the grounds that it is contrary to law and regulations."

The court has decided to request 36 separate documents from the administration and YÖK to review the objection and make a decision regarding the stay of execution.
