Interior Minister Yerlikaya: We are preparing for the personal rights of our police officers
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that efforts regarding the personal rights of police officers are ongoing, saying, "We are working on personal rights. We are making our preparations. We believe that all our colleagues who perform the same job, such as those in the Gendarmerie, the Police, and the Coast Guard Command, should be on the same pay scale. We are making a great effort in this regard."
Yerlikaya made a statement regarding the work being carried out on personal rights for police personnel during a television program he attended. Yerlikaya said the following:
"Let me give you information about what we have done and the issues we are working on regarding our police officers: This year, we carried out a complete reform in the appointment and transfer regulations. Just like in the Ministries of Health, National Education, and Agriculture, we have linked appointments to a system. We carried out the assignments of our colleagues in 8 minutes in an electronic environment, in front of everyone. For example, spousal status and excuse-based appointments were twice a year. We increased this to every month, that is, to 12 times a year. In our peace meetings in our provinces, I talk to our personnel, I come together with them frequently. I listen to all of them.
Let me say this: We are also working on personal rights. We are making our preparations. We believe that all our colleagues who perform the same job, such as those in the Gendarmerie, the Police, and the Coast Guard Command, should be on the same pay scale. We have an effort regarding a personal rights system in this way. Our police officers know what this is themselves. We will all see together what time will show us for this balance to be achieved. We are making a great effort in this regard.
Recently, for the first time in Turkey, we held a salary promotion tender in an open and transparent environment, which was watched live by 301 thousand people simultaneously on X. The best possible figure was achieved in a competitive environment. We exist for the rights of our police officers. Some do not want our police to focus on issues such as public order, drugs, organized crime, and traffic. Unfortunately, they adopt a negative language and attitude in order to disrupt their motivation and engage in politics from there. We watch them with concern. Our police officers never give them any credit.
Our police also believe that; when the time comes, our ministry and our government, under the leadership of our President, will do whatever is necessary regarding the personal rights that our police officers are waiting for. You will see, look, all of these will happen."
