Investigation into 4,753 people in main HDK case: Sent to Istanbul
While the main file of the HDK investigation is in Ankara, an investigation has been launched into 4,753 people. The files of 1,640 people have been sent to Istanbul.
According to a report by Cumhuriyet newspaper, an investigation was launched into 4,753 people on charges of "membership in an armed terrorist organization" as part of the probe initiated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in 2023 into the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK).
The files of 1,640 people, including former members of parliament, lawyers, journalists, artists, and human rights defenders, were sent to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office with a decision of lack of jurisdiction on the grounds that their residential addresses were in Istanbul.
It was noted that as part of the main investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, following the examination of digital materials seized during searches at the HDK Headquarters in Istanbul on June 3, 2022, it was determined that the 1,640 people whose names were mentioned in the files sent to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had their information on the digital devices and were understood to have been carrying out activities within the HDK.
