Investigation into CHP-run municipalities: Many figures, including Aykut Erdoğdu and Hasan Akgün, arrested

Thirty-six people, whose processing at the police station was completed as part of four separate corruption investigations into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, were brought to Bayrampaşa State Hospital early in the morning. The suspects, who underwent health checks at the hospital, were transferred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan by riot police buses.

Meanwhile, the questioning of the suspects, who were transferred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan and include mayors and deputy mayors, began as of 10:00 AM.

General Manager Ali Sukas, İSFALT General Manager Burak Korzay, former CHP MP Aykut Erdoğdu, Beylikdüzü Deputy Mayor Veysel Erçevik, assistant to the Beylikdüzü Mayor Gürkan Polat, Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayor Ömer Kazancı, Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayor Rıza Can Özdemir, Avcılar Deputy Mayor Erhan Daka, Avcılar Deputy Mayor Mehmet Mandacı, CHP Party Assembly Member Baki Aydöner, MP Özgür Karabat's advisor Sırrı Küçük, Osmaniye Kadirli Municipality worker Can Zafer Yaman, Beşiktaş Municipality instructors Şazime Sena Çelik and Görkem Kızılayak, and partners, officials, and employees of companies mentioned in the investigation, Ebubekir Akın, Gürkan Dölekli, Özer Ayık, Yusuf Yadoğlu, Fikri Demir, Songül Demir, İsmet Abacı, Hakan Ateş, and İsmail Yalçın, were referred to the on-duty criminal judgeship of peace with a request for arrest.

ARREST DECISIONS FOR MANY INDIVIDUALS

In the investigation into CHP-run municipalities, former CHP MP Aykut Erdoğdu, former Beylikdüzü Deputy Mayor Veysel Erçevik, Ağaç A.Ş. General Manager Ali Sukas, Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayor Ömer Kazancı, Avcılar Deputy Mayor Mehmet Mandacı, Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayor Rıza Can Özdemir, and İsmet Abacı were arrested. The court also decided to arrest Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe.

RELEASED UNDER JUDICIAL CONTROL

Assistant to the Beylikdüzü Mayor Gürkan Polat, Büyükçekmece Municipality employee Halil S., Beşiktaş Municipality instructors Görkem Kızılayak and Şazime Sena Çelik, and officials of the companies mentioned in the investigation, Hakan Ateş and İsmail Yalçın, were released under judicial control conditions.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Within the scope of the corruption investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into suspects including Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was removed from his post as IMM Mayor following his arrest, on charges of "being an executive of a criminal organization," "being a member of a criminal organization," "extortion," "bribery," "qualified fraud," "unlawful acquisition of personal data," and "rigging a tender," findings were made that former CHP MP Aykut Erdoğdu mediated bribery within İSTAÇ.

In the investigation, it was determined that Ağaç A.Ş. General Manager Ali Sukas requested money and vehicles from individuals and firms doing business, and demanded money under the name of "commission" upon the instructions of the IMM senior management.

It was also determined that Beylikdüzü Deputy Mayor Veysel Erçevik provided financial benefits from a contractor building in the region in exchange for granting occupancy permits.
