Investigation launched into Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü

The Muğla Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü for the crimes of resisting a public official and violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911.

Party members gathered in front of the CHP Muğla Provincial Headquarters to protest the detention of IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and 86 others as part of two separate investigations into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) regarding "terrorism and organized crime," and held a press statement.

Provincial Chairman Zekican Balcı stated that the detention of İmamoğlu harms democracy and that they would follow the process closely.

Following the statement, the group began a march toward the Muğla Courthouse. Police did not allow the group to proceed, citing that the march was unauthorized. The group reached the front of the courthouse building and continued their protest by chanting slogans.

When the group refused to disperse, police teams intervened with tear gas. An investigation was launched by the Muğla Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü, who was seen shouting and punching a police shield after being affected by the tear gas used during the protest, on charges of resisting a public official and violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911.

Four people, including CHP Muğla Provincial Youth Branch President Nazım Şardoğan, who were detained during the protest march attended by CHP mayors and party officials, were released after giving their statements at the police station.
