Investigation launched into photo of student with Down syndrome with taped mouth
In Bursa, the Provincial Directorate of National Education has launched an investigation after photos showing a student with Down syndrome at a special education school with their mouth taped shut with packing tape went viral on social media.
A photo was taken of K.N., who has been attending a special education practice school in the central Yıldırım district for 4 years, with their mouth covered by packing tape.
While many people reacted to the photo of the 18-year-old student with Down syndrome published on social media, the Provincial Directorate of National Education has launched an investigation into the matter.
Officials from the Bursa Provincial Directorate of National Education, who made a statement regarding the issue, said, "We are investigating the matter comprehensively. In our preliminary research, we found that there are 3 teachers in this student's classroom.
The student constantly engages in such behaviors in the classroom as a game.
The teachers are trying to address this.
That photo may have been taken while the student was taping their own mouth.
Our directorate has launched a multi-faceted investigation into the subject," they stated.
