Investigation launched into Selçuk Tepeli's use of the term 'cattle' while commenting on Özgür Özel photo

While reactions continue regarding Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel hosting reporter Taha Hüseyin Karagöz, who is known for his proximity to the AKP government, NOW Main News anchor Selçuk Tepeli commented on the meeting, saying, "If I were him, I would rather have a photo with a head of cattle instead of that photo."

RTÜK Chairman Ebubekir Şahin announced that an investigation has been launched into the famous anchor Selçuk Tepeli due to this comment.

Şahin stated, "Following the photo of our young journalist friend Taha Hüseyin Karagöz with Mr. Özgür Özel, a so-called veteran who shouts about freedom and inclusivity from morning to night can utter unspeakable insults against both parties on his own channel and can almost reach the point of delirium where he might issue a fatwa saying 'his execution is permissible'."

Speaking about Tepeli, Şahin said, "The other one is supposedly an anchor for a national channel's main news. In an environment where there are people and a mentality that feed on discrimination and conflict, and who hope for ratings only through news presented with a one-sided, divisive language like a political party spokesperson, we will always continue to be unifying, inclusive, and impartial."

Stating that RTÜK experts have launched an investigation into the broadcast and that the necessary actions will be taken if a violation of broadcasting principles is encountered, Şahin declared, "Rest assured, the mentality and its advocates that I have given examples of are always this biased. I and those who think like me have always been more impartial than them and have acted accordingly."
