Investigation into 'tape conspiracy' against Muharrem İnce completed

Memleket Party Chairman Muharrem İnce was the target of posts made by the user of the “Ankara Kuşu” account on the Twitter (X) platform, Oktay Yaşar and Veli Koçak, for whom an indictment has been prepared on charges of “aiding an armed terrorist organization without being a member.”

The indictment prepared by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated, “After failing to achieve its goals in the December 17-25 plot carried out by public officials affiliated with the organization upon the instructions of the FETÖ ringleader, and failing in the coup attempt on July 15 aimed at abolishing the government or partially or completely preventing it from performing its duties, FETÖ members and executives fled abroad through illegal means, requested political asylum, and have been trying to achieve their goals by making posts and disinformation news against Turkey on social media in the countries where they are located.”

“THEY ALSO TARGETED CIVILIANS”

The indictment further stated that “FETÖ’s ‘social media manager’ Cevheri Güven targeted state officials, public officials fighting against FETÖ, politicians, and civilians in order to whitewash and legitimize the coup attempt and the suspect organization members involved in the aforementioned act against the constitutional order, and that many FETÖ-affiliated accounts, especially Güven, made fake posts targeting İnce before the Presidential election.”

“FAKE IMAGES AND BANK RECEIPTS”

Emphasizing that both fake pornographic video footage and a fake bank receipt were circulated on social media for the purpose of provocation and threats against presidential candidate and Memleket Party Chairman Muharrem İnce, the indictment explained that “these were shared by fugitive FETÖ member Güven and other organization members for provocation purposes to reach a wider audience, and that these images presented on social media were also disseminated by the suspects.”

“THEY USE THE ACCOUNT JOINTLY”

The indictment included the following findings:

"It has been determined that the 13th Presidential Election and the 28th Parliamentary Elections were manipulated by FETÖ in line with the organization's goals and objectives, and that fake pornographic images and fake bank receipts were circulated on social media channels to force the complainant İnce to withdraw from his candidacy and to use them as a tool for intimidation and pressure. In the ongoing process, it was determined that the suspects Oktay Yaşar and Veli Koçak, through posts on the ‘Ankara Kuşu’ account, which they use jointly and which has approximately 1 million 358 thousand followers, exceeded the limits of criticism and made posts containing insults to the complainant's honor and dignity in a chain manner.

“PRESSURE AND INTIMIDATION ACTIVITIES”

It is understood that the suspects supported the pressure and intimidation activities initiated by FETÖ to shape politics around its ultimate goals with the social media power they possess to reach large masses of people, and that by preventing the ‘right to vote and be elected’ granted to the complainant by Article 67 of the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey, suspects Oktay Yaşar and Veli Koçak committed the alleged crime by knowingly and willingly aiding the ultimate goals of FETÖ through intense, oppressive, and unlawful actions that ended with the withdrawal process from candidacy."

The indictment requested that the suspects Oktay Yaşar and Veli Koçak be sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison each for the crime of “aiding an armed terrorist organization without being a member.”
