Investigation launched into those calling for boycotts on social media

The statement regarding the matter is as follows:

"The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into divisive rhetoric—commonly known in the public sphere as 'boycott' calls—aimed at preventing a segment of the public from engaging in economic activity, as well as into the individuals spreading these statements, under the charges of Hate and Discrimination (Turkish Penal Code Art. 122/1-d) and Inciting the Public to Hatred and Hostility (Turkish Penal Code Art. 216), which have been appearing in traditional and social media outlets for some time."

SUPPORT STATEMENT HAD COME FROM ÖZGÜR ÖZEL

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had also supported the boycott calls made for April 2.

In his post, Özel had said, "I wholeheartedly support the consumption boycott initiated by young people against this persecution of students, mothers, fathers, and siblings.

I invite everyone to join this boycott and use their power derived from consumption."
