Investigation launched against Barış Pehlivan over 'expert witness' case

In a press statement held at Saraçhane, IMM Mayor İmamoğlu had disclosed the name of an expert witness whom he alleged had taken part in investigations targeting the CHP. Following this, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into İmamoğlu for "attempting to influence an expert witness" and "attempting to influence a fair trial."

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office also instructed the Istanbul Police Department to identify and launch investigations into media outlets that published the name of the expert witness disclosed by İmamoğlu in a way that 'targeted' the individual in written and visual media.

Within the scope of these efforts, an investigation was launched against Halk TV and Pehlivan for the crimes of "eavesdropping and recording private conversations" and "attempting to influence an expert witness."

The following statements were made by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the investigation:

"Regarding the matter, an investigation has been launched against Barış Pehlivan, as well as the relevant presenter and officials of the Halk TV media outlet, for the crimes of 'eavesdropping and recording private conversations' and 'attempting to influence an expert witness,' due to the unauthorized recording and broadcasting of a phone conversation with an expert witness during a Halk TV broadcast today, as well as the disclosure of the expert's name in a way that targets them and the use of remarks intended to influence the course of the trial."
