Investigation launched into former police chief close to Süleyman Soylu! 'The counter-move was not delayed...'

Developments in the Ayhan Bora Kaplan investigation have become a major topic on Turkey's agenda.

Sözcü columnist İsmail Saymaz evaluated the developments regarding the detention of 4 police officers following the testimony of Serdar Sertçelik—who is alleged to be a henchman of Ayhan Bora Kaplan, the organized crime leader arrested in Ankara, and involved in certain criminal acts—in which he accused the Ankara Police Department. Stating that "the civil war within the police force has surfaced and the old and new police bureaucracy are clashing," Saymaz wrote that as a counter-move, an inspector's investigation has been launched into former Ankara Police Chief Servet Yılmaz, one of the figures close to former Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu.

Serdar Sertçelik, who is alleged to be a henchman of Ayhan Bora Kaplan, the organized crime leader arrested in Ankara, and involved in certain criminal acts, accused the police with the words, "They forced me to sign 19 pages of statements full of lies and slander."

Sertçelik claimed that after he went abroad, the police reached out to him and wanted him to testify against Süleyman Soylu, Bekir Bozdağ, Fahrettin Koca, Abdulhamit Gül, Mücahit Arslan, and Hasan Doğan, and that they were staging a coup against the government in this way. Following Sertçelik's statements and the audio recordings he released, Ankara Deputy Police Chief in charge of the Organized Crime Branch Murat Çelik, Organized Crime Branch Manager Kerem Öner, Deputy Manager Şevket Demircan, and Commissioner Ufuk Gültekin were detained yesterday on charges of attempting a coup. Çelik, Demircan, and Gültekin are the three individuals who detained Kaplan on September 7, 2023.

In his column today, where he evaluated the developments in question, Saymaz used the expressions, "This counter-operation shows that the civil war in the police force has surfaced. On one side is Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya... On the other side is his predecessor Süleyman Soylu. The old and new police bureaucracy are clashing around them."

Stating that "While the brain team of the Ayhan Bora Kaplan investigation was being detained yesterday, the counter-move was not delayed," Saymaz wrote that an inspector's investigation has been launched into former Ankara Police Chief Servet Yılmaz, one of the figures close to Süleyman Soylu. Saymaz stated, "It is alleged that money in the form of donations received for the allocation of special license plates was transferred to Yılmaz's account. It is claimed that the General Directorate of Security has launched an inspection upon the instruction of Yerlikaya."

QUESTIONS FOR INTERIOR MINISTER YERLİKAYA

On the other hand, Saymaz directed the following questions to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya:

"Was he aware of the secret witness? When did he learn that M7 had fled? Was he aware of the audio recordings between Commissioner Demircan and Sertçelik, which are interpreted as the investigation being directed against the government? Are the police staging a coup against the government through the Ayhan Bora Kaplan investigation? Or is the mafia conducting an operation against the police and the government?"
