Investigation launched into ship that sank off Silivri: 10 crew members missing

A judicial investigation has been launched regarding the sinking of a ship following a collision between two Turkish-flagged commercial vessels off the coast of Silivri. It was reported that the 10-person crew on board the sunken ship, named TUĞBERK İMAMOĞLU, has not yet been reached.

According to the statement made by the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the accident occurred on September 2, 2026, at approximately 03:00, about 18 nautical miles south of the Silivri district. The commercial ship named TUĞBERK İMAMOĞLU, which was sailing from Kocaeli to Aliağa and loaded with rolled sheet metal and construction rebar, collided with the Turkish-flagged commercial ship named ALSU.

It was stated that an investigation was immediately launched upon the report that the TUĞBERK İMAMOĞLU ship had sunk following the collision. It was noted that search and rescue operations are ongoing in coordination with relevant institutions and organizations to reach the missing crew.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that expert examinations will be conducted to determine the manner and causes of the incident, as well as to identify any individuals who may be held responsible. Instructions have been issued to urgently secure navigation, radar, and communication records of the ships, as well as any information, documents, footage, and other evidence related to the incident.

It was reported that one deputy chief public prosecutor and two public prosecutors have been assigned to ensure the investigation is conducted effectively and comprehensively, and that judicial proceedings are ongoing.
