Investigation reopened into 8-year-old girl found hanging

Upon the instructions of Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, Ministry lawyers filed an objection requesting the reversal of the non-prosecution decision and the continuation of the investigation.

Following the acceptance of the objection by the duty Batman Criminal Court of Peace, the investigation was reopened.

It was learned that within the scope of the investigation, the Istanbul Council of Forensic Medicine will prepare a report investigating whether there was "sexual abuse" against 8-year-old Ş.S.

 BACKGROUND OF THE INCIDENT

In a statement regarding the incident made by the Batman Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on January 9, 2024, the following information was provided:

"The treatment of the victimized girl, who was found hanging by a rope in front of their house in the Kozluk district by her family on January 7, 2024, is continuing at the Batman Training and Research Hospital. All evidence regarding the investigation has been collected expeditiously, and as of this stage, there is no one in custody regarding the incident, contrary to claims made on the social media accounts of some local press outlets. The investigation into the cause of the suicide incident, which is the subject of the inquiry, is being meticulously continued by the Kozluk Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and the investigation is proceeding in all its aspects."

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had issued a decision of non-prosecution as a result of the investigation, upon which the Ministry of Family and Social Services had objected to the decision.
