Revealed by IPA research: Lack of trust in state policies affects the transformation process

Participants expressed concerns regarding the control of rent increases and the lack of trust in urban transformation processes.

At the "City Talks" event held at the IPA Campus, issues of urban planning and social justice were addressed. Fundamental topics such as disaster risk and housing rights were discussed at the event. Participants drew attention to the difficulties faced by low-income groups in accessing housing and the rise in rents.

According to BirGün, experts speaking at the event described the state of the real estate market in Istanbul and the socio-economic impacts of rent increases. Furthermore, issues such as distrust in the judiciary, zoning amnesties, arbitrariness in legal processes, and inadequacies in urban transformation projects were discussed.

At the conclusion of the event, it was emphasized that cities must be built to be disaster-resilient and that urban transformation projects should transform not only physical structures but social structures as well. Additionally, proposed solutions such as increasing social housing projects and controlling rent increases were voiced.
