Eğitim-İş President Kadem Özbay spoke to 12punto following the brutal murder of school principal İbrahim Oktugan by Iraqi high school student Yusuf K.

Turkey is reeling from the news of Özel Eyüpsultan Final Akademi Anadolu High School Principal İbrahim Oktugan, who was brutally murdered by Iraqi high school student Yusuf K., who had been expelled from the school 5 months ago in Istanbul's Alibeyköy district.

Eğitim-İş President Kadem Özbay made important statements to 12punto.com.tr regarding the murder that has shaken Turkey.

Kadem Özbay stated the following:

The political power must abandon rhetoric such as "we will restore the professional reputation of teachers, we will give teachers some personality, let's see if there are idealist teachers or not, let us try the teachers waiting for appointment," and stop wagging their fingers.

It must be shown that teachers' opinions are sought and valued in the education process.

Unfortunately, society has now turned violence into a part of life in every area of existence.

This violence cannot be explained by a single perpetrator alone.

The political power must abandon its divisive, marginalizing language, its favoritism of its own, its disregard for merit, and its disregard for the constitution.

A law on violence in education must be enacted immediately, and a highly deterrent practice must be implemented.

We are going on strike on Friday, we have launched a protest, and we are wearing black. We are calling for justice in education.

We have reached a consensus with 4 unions. We have agreed with the presidents of Eğitim-Sen, Hürriyetçi Eğitim-Sen, and Anadolu Eğitim-Sen to be in the field on the same day. There is no positive response from Eğitim-Bir-Sen and Türk-Eğitim-Sen.
