Is a 2,000 euro 'homeland support tax' coming for expatriates? Statement from the DMM
The Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) has denied claims that a 2,000 euro 'homeland support tax' would be collected from expatriates. In a statement issued by the DMM, it was noted that "there is no taxation study under any heading for our citizens living abroad in the new tax package currently being prepared by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance."
The Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) has announced that the claim that a 2,000 euro annual "homeland support tax" would be collected from expatriates is not true.
A statement was made on the DMM's social media account regarding the claims that "Expatriates will pay a 2,000 euro annual homeland support tax."
The statement from the DMM included the following:
"There is no taxation study under any heading for our citizens living abroad in the new tax package currently being prepared by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. Proposals and expectations submitted to the Ministry of Treasury and Finance by market stakeholders regarding the aforementioned new tax package are being evaluated, and it is planned to be submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) after it is finalized by the Ministry.
It has been determined that the claims made regarding the new tax package, which is being prepared to further reinforce justice in taxation and increase efficiency, aim to create anxiety and distrust in the public. Do not give credence to speculative statements made outside of official institutions and authorities."
The claim shared by some social media accounts that “Expatriates will pay a 2000 € annual homeland support tax” is not true.
