Is the minimum wage, which the government says will have 'no mid-year hike,' enough for citizens? Survey results announced

While discussions about a 'mid-year hike' for the minimum wage have been ongoing for some time, a minimum wage survey has arrived from ORC Research. In the survey, citizens were asked, 'Do you find the minimum wage amount sufficient?'

Before the AKP group meeting, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan had stated in his response to journalists' questions that there would be no increase in the minimum wage.

Işıkhan had expressed that the indicators were coming in positively and that they would meet in December to determine the new minimum wage.

Minister Işıkhan had also announced that a welfare share for retirees was not on their agenda.

MINIMUM WAGE WAS ALSO DISCUSSED IN THE CHP AND MEHMET ŞİMŞEK MEETING

The meeting between Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek and CHP Deputy Chairman Yalçın Karatepe, where the 'demand for a mid-year hike in the minimum wage' was brought to the agenda, had become a topic of discussion across the country.

Following the meeting, CHP's Karatepe stated, "We went to the meeting with four demands, but at the end of four hours, we saw that there was no will for change in their approach, which once again presents the bitter pill to the citizens."

According to the information obtained, it was learned that Minister Şimşek opposed Karatepe's demand for a mid-year hike in the minimum wage and an increase in retiree salaries by adding a welfare share, citing the implemented economic program and stating, "We cannot compromise on the inflation target."

ORC CONDUCTED A SURVEY

ORC Research shared with the public the survey it conducted with 5,620 people before the meeting.

In the research, the question 'Do you find the 'minimum wage' amount applied in Turkey sufficient?' was asked.

While 77.6 percent of citizens answered the question as 'No, I do not find it sufficient,' only 8.9 percent said 'Yes,' declaring that they found it sufficient.

In the survey conducted between June 10-14, 13.5 percent of the participants did not express an opinion.
