ISIS terrorists take prison guards hostage

The Rostov Regional Federal Penitentiary Service announced that two prison officers had been taken hostage at a prison under its jurisdiction.

While it was learned that the suspects did not have access to the prison officers' weapons and took the staff hostage with knives, Baza, a Telegram channel linked to Russian law enforcement, announced that those who carried out the act were linked to ISIS.

OPERATION CONDUCTED

Russian security forces, alerted to the situation, conducted a special operation at the prison. While the RIA news agency reported that gunfire was heard near the detention center, automatic gunfire could be heard in footage shared on social media.

In a statement from the Rostov Regional Federal Penitentiary Service, it was stated, "Suspects held in one of the cells of the No. 1 prison under the Federal Penitentiary Service in the Rostov region took two prison officers hostage. During a special operation organized to rescue the hostages, the criminals were neutralized and the hostages were rescued without harm."

THEY BROKE THE BARS OF THE CELL WINDOW

According to information reflected in Russian media, the inmates broke the bars of the window in their cell, entered the guards' room, and took the 2 officers inside hostage.

Before special forces raided the detention center, a photo of one of the hostage-takers was leaked to the 112 Telegram channel. The inmate was seen brandishing his knife next to the guards he had taken hostage.

ISIS CONNECTION CONFIRMED

State media reported that some of the inmates were linked to ISIS militants who claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on a concert hall in Moscow in March.
