İsmail Saymaz shares claims on why Fahrettin Koca was removed from his ministry: 'Party organizations couldn't get their people in'
İsmail Saymaz, who had long been reporting that Health Minister Fahrettin Koca would resign, has shared his insights on the reasons behind Koca's removal following the change announced in the Official Gazette.
With the decree published in the Official Gazette, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca and Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki were removed from their posts, while Halk TV programmer İsmail Saymaz shared behind-the-scenes information regarding Koca's dismissal.
Saymaz stated that, based on his conversations with Koca's inner circle, he learned that there were two different reasons for his removal, noting that the departure was rooted in a struggle over rent-seeking within the AKP.
"TWO OF THE AKP'S MOST SIGNIFICANT ILLS"
Here are the highlights from Saymaz's statements:
"One reason told to me by those close to Fahrettin Koca is this: The money that would have gone to contractors for city hospitals remained in the public sector, and investments were made using the Ministry of Health's budget. They say this situation disturbed contractors who have influence over the government.
The second reason is that during Koca's tenure, people were not hired through interviews. It is said that everyone came based on their KPSS scores, and therefore, party organizations could not get their people in. I don't believe this was at a zero level.
The Ministry of Health is known as a stronghold of the Menzil community. They brought Fahrettin Bey in with the idea that 'a nail drives out another nail.' They brought him in thinking only he could speak their language and that 'a nail drives out another nail.' Now, if this information were true, the Istanbul Provincial Health Director would not have become Health Minister through family nepotism. This means there was an influence behind his presence there.
As a result, the names around Koca point to the prevention of party members being brought in through interviews as one of the reasons for his departure. These are two of the most significant ills of the AKP.
The first is cronyism, bypassing the KPSS through interviews to fill the public sector with as many incompetent partisans as possible. According to him, this was prevented. The second is that the AKP rises on three main areas of rent: construction, energy, and mining. Construction is one of the most important items keeping the AKP afloat, and it is said that he did not let contractors in through this channel.
Fahrettin Koca underlined one of these in his farewell speech, and they bid him farewell."
