Israel disrupted Erdoğan's Abbas plan: If Haniyeh had not been killed, Mahmoud Abbas would have spoken simultaneously with Netanyahu
AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik made statements regarding Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's visit to Turkey. Çelik announced that Abbas's visit had been planned to coincide with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to the US Congress in July.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has arrived in Turkey. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hosted Abbas at the Beştepe Presidential Complex. Mahmoud Abbas will also visit the Grand National Assembly of Turkey today.
AKP Spokesperson and Deputy Chairman Ömer Çelik also spoke about Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's visit to Turkey during a press conference. Çelik stated the following:
'IT WAS PLANNED TO BE SIMULTANEOUS WITH NETANYAHU'
''When the news that Netanyahu would speak at the US Congress was presented to our President, our President immediately gave instructions and expressed his desire for an initiative to be taken to invite Mr. Abbas to Turkey, so that Mr. Abbas could speak at the Turkish Grand National Assembly simultaneously while Netanyahu was speaking at the American Congress.
He had also desired for the late martyr Haniyeh to be present while Mr. Abbas was speaking. A plan of that nature was in place, and consultations with our Parliament Speaker had been conducted accordingly. However, this could not be realized later due to Haniyeh's passing, his martyrdom, and Mr. Abbas's inability to visit Turkey on that date due to an excuse.''
'THE WORLD IS BIGGER THAN FIVE'
Stating that "everyone in the region is under threat until a two-state solution is reached and those responsible for the genocide are tried," Çelik criticized international institutions for their insufficient reactions to Israel's actions. Recalling United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres's criticism of the UN system by pointing to the level of Africa's representation at the UN, Çelik stated that Guterres's criticism was consistent with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's words, "The world is bigger than five."
