Israeli Minister Ben-Gvir targets star of Eşref Rüya

Görkem Sevindik, who stands out on television screens with the character Kadir he portrays in the series “Eşref Rüya,” reacted on social media to the regulation on the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners currently on the Knesset's agenda.

The actor's post reached a wide audience in a short time and found resonance at an international level.

CALL TO “PLEASE DO NOT REMAIN SILENT”

In his post, Sevindik addressed the public against the death penalty decisions for Palestinian prisoners and called for them not to remain silent. Emphasizing human rights, the actor drew attention to the importance of social reaction against the developments.

TARGETED BY ISRAELI MINISTER

While Sevindik's statements also became a topic of discussion in Israel, Itamar Ben-Gvir released a video and made statements regarding the actor.

In his post, Ben-Gvir referred to Sevindik's character in the series, stating, “Kadir from Eşref Rüya. You will never be Kadir Baba. We live in Israel. You act in a Turkish series. The death penalty for terrorists is now in effect.”

DEBATE GROWS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Following these developments, the issue caused a wide stir on social media. While some users supporting Israeli policies called for a boycott against Sevindik, numerous users from Turkey shared messages of support for the actor.

“I REACTED AS A CONSCIENTIOUS HUMAN BEING”

Making a statement following the reactions, Sevindik stated that he made the post after being affected by a video he watched on social media. Expressing that he empathized as a father, the actor explained the reason for his reaction to what happened with the following words:

“I came across a video while scrolling through social media. I saw some people who had been sentenced to death being put on a bus. I saw their final looks at their children, their hugs with their children. As a person with a conscience, as a father, I empathized. As a person with a conscience, I am against such oppression. I wanted to show a reaction in my own way.”
