Israeli Minister's remarks on Turkey
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, highlighting Turkey's influence in Syria, stated, "Ankara has the greatest influence over Damascus; it aims to be the leader of Sunni Islam in the region."
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar made striking remarks regarding Turkey's influence over Syria following his meeting with President Maia Sandu in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova.
THEY HAVE THE GREATEST INFLUENCE
Arguing that Turkey is currently the most dominant country in Syria, Saar stated, "It is clear that Ankara has the greatest influence over Damascus. Turkey aims to be the leader of Sunni Islam in the region."
Touching upon the new transitional government in Syria, Saar claimed that this structure consists of "jihadists seeking international legitimacy through moderate rhetoric." Saar said, "The new government in Damascus is composed of Islamist and jihadist elements. They are focused on the economy, governance, and gaining global legitimacy. That is why they are using a more polite language, but this is a strategy adopted by many Islamist movements when coming to power."
