In a statement issued following heavy rainfall, the Istanbul Governor's Office reported: "Due to the storm and precipitation in Istanbul, a total of 669 incidents occurred, including 469 cases of flooding, 40 roofs blown off, 56 fallen trees, 11 landslides, 89 instances of falling debris posing a danger, 2 vehicle rescues, and 2 fallen utility poles."

Istanbul Governor's Office issues statement on 'adverse weather': 1 dead, 4 injured

The Istanbul Governor's Office has issued a statement regarding the adverse weather conditions experienced in the city in recent days.

Following the severe downpours, the Istanbul Governor's Office announced that one person lost their life and four people were injured due to the storm, with a total of 4,566 incidents requiring intervention. The statement noted that the storm, which was effective during the night between Tuesday, November 28, and Wednesday, November 29, lost its intensity by Wednesday evening and turned into heavy rain. It was stated that the rainfall in Istanbul averaged between 40 and 122 kilograms per square meter, with the highest precipitation recorded in the Sarıyer, Beykoz, Şişli, and Beylikdüzü districts.

4 THOUSAND 566 INCIDENTS

The statement included the following: "Due to the storm and precipitation in Istanbul, a total of 669 incidents occurred, including 469 cases of flooding, 40 roofs blown off, 56 fallen trees, 11 landslides, 89 instances of falling debris posing a danger, 2 vehicle rescues, and 2 fallen utility poles. The total number of incidents intervened in by AFAD, the Fire Department, and relevant municipal units is 4 thousand 566. Between 20.00 on 28.11.2023 and 12.00 today, 30.11.2023, 4 thousand 686 reports were made to the AFAD 112 Call Center, and our teams responded to all reports. (The difference between the number of calls and the number of cases is due to duplicate reports.)"

3 GREENHOUSES DAMAGED

The statement continued: "At 01.07 on 29.11.2023, a Turkish fuel-laden ship named 'Kadriye Ana' ran aground near the shore at Ataköy beach in the Bakırköy district and was evacuated by Coast Guard teams. At 14.37, the ship named 'Kadriye Ana' was rescued from where it had run aground by Coastal Safety teams. At 02.44 on 29.11.2023, a citizen who was injured due to a fallen utility pole on Büyükdere Street in the Emniyet Evleri neighborhood of the Kağıthane district lost their life at the hospital where they were taken. At 10.42, following a landslide at a construction site on Gaziosmanpaşa Street in the Esentepe neighborhood of the Eyüpsultan district, 3 shanty houses were evacuated as a precaution, and the citizens living in the houses were placed in hotels and guesthouses. At 15.25, a landslide occurred on Berfin Street in the Silahtar Ağa neighborhood of the Eyüpsultan district; 4 shanty houses and 2 buildings with 2 floors each were evacuated by Fire Department teams as a precaution because they posed a danger, and the citizens living in the houses were placed in hotels and guesthouses. 4 people injured due to flooding, wall collapses, and roof collapses in our Bakırköy, Esenyurt, and Gaziosmanpaşa districts have been taken under treatment in hospitals. A citizen's field in the 19 Mayıs neighborhood of the Büyükçekmece district was damaged, 3 greenhouses were damaged in Çatalca, and 2 private boats sank and 1 boat tilted to its side at the Avcılar fishing shelter. Fire department teams were directed to a 3-story vacant derelict building with no number on Peykhane Street in the Binbirdirek neighborhood of the Fatih district upon a report of a partial collapse; after checks, no negative situation was encountered, and the scene was handed over to the district municipality's municipal police teams around 23.30."
