Istanbul Public Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan murdered by 19-year-old rival

In Çekmeköy, Public Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan, who served at the Istanbul Courthouse, was stabbed in the throat and killed by a 19-year-old with whom he had a prior dispute.

The incident occurred at approximately 21:15 at a restaurant located in Ömerli, Çekmeköy, Istanbul. 58-year-old Public Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan, who worked at the Istanbul Courthouse, was stabbed in the throat by 19-year-old Mustafa Can Gül, who was identified as having a prior dispute with him.

Upon notification, numerous police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Medical teams confirmed that Kayhan had lost his life at the scene.

As a result of the work carried out by police teams, Mustafa Can Gül was apprehended and taken into custody.

While an investigation into the incident has been launched by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the body of the murdered Public Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute Morgue.

It was learned that Mustafa Can Gül, whose interrogation continues at the Ömerli Gendarmerie Station, has 3 separate criminal records.

STATEMENT FROM MINISTER TUNÇ REGARDING THE MURDER OF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR KAYHAN

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made a statement regarding the murder of Public Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan, who served at the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

In a post on his social media account, Minister Tunç stated, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Public Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan, who served at the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, as a result of a knife attack at a business in the Ömerli neighborhood of Çekmeköy district. I wish God's mercy upon our Public Prosecutor; I extend my condolences and patience to his family, relatives, and our judicial community. The assailant has been taken into custody, and the judicial investigation initiated by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident is being conducted in a multi-faceted manner."
