In the case regarding the Sulayıcı Apartment building, which collapsed in the February 6, 2023, Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, resulting in the loss of 24 lives, 68-year-old Mahmut Sulayıcı—who commissioned the building, owned the tractor gallery on the ground floor, was alleged to have cut columns in the gallery, and faces up to 618 years in prison—was released during the 4th hearing. A new expert report was also added to the case file during the hearing.

According to the report, new individuals at fault alongside Sulayıcı have emerged.

The court panel decided to file a criminal complaint against the individuals identified as 'primarily at fault' in the new report.

The 4th hearing of the case, held at the Kahramanmaraş 2nd High Criminal Court, concerns the collapse of the Sulayıcı Apartment building on Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Boulevard in the Mehmet Akif neighborhood during the first earthquake on February 6, 2023, which caused the deaths of 24 people and injuries to 12 others.

The hearing was attended by Mahmut Sulayıcı, who faces up to 618 years in prison for 'intentional killing and injury with probable intent,' as well as the relatives of the victims and the lawyers for the parties. During the hearing, the expert report from Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, which was newly added to the file, was read.

At the end of the hearing, the court panel decided to release Sulayıcı, taking into account the time he had already spent in detention. The panel also decided to file a criminal complaint with the Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the individuals in the relevant municipal departments, the static project author, the building owner, the building contractor, and the technical supervisor who were identified as being at fault in the new expert report, and adjourned the hearing.
