In today's hearing of the trial regarding the Nilüfer Apartment, which collapsed in Hatay during the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes on February 6, 2023, and became a grave for 56 people, all detained defendants were released. With the release of contractor Murat Fuatoğlu and building inspection expert Mehmet Haşim Eraslan, who were being tried while in detention, there are no detained defendants left.

The lawyer for the plaintiffs, Naim Feyzullaj Eminoğlu, spoke to the ANKA News Agency. Eminoğlu stated, "Since the 1999 earthquake, fair decisions have not been rendered in trials. Today, we are once again facing unjust decisions. We will continue to fight alongside the families for the re-arrest of the defendants."

The families of those who lost their lives closely followed the hearing held at the Hatay 5th High Criminal Court. Detained contractor Murat Fuatoğlu attended the hearing via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS). Detained building inspection expert Mehmet Haşim Eraslan and defendant Bülent Seküçoğlu, who was being tried without detention, were also present at the hearing.

The court panel changed for this session of the case, which had been overseen by a different court panel for the previous three hearings.

'IF I HAD ILL INTENT, I WOULD NOT HAVE LIVED IN THAT BUILDING'

Detained defendant Murat Fuatoğlu claimed that he understood the pain of those who lost their relatives but that it was impossible for there to have been negligence in the building. Fuatoğlu stated that he was involved in every floor, from the foundation to the top level, and that he spared no expense. Fuatoğlu said, "If I were a person with ill intent, I would not have lived in that building. I lived on the 8th floor of the building. There were no sound buildings left in Odabaşı. The earthquake was not magnitude 6, and this building was not the only one that collapsed. This should also be taken into consideration."
