It had become a grave for 150 people: Contractor of Palmiye Site released after 23 days
In the trial regarding the Kahramanmaraş Palmiye Site, where 150 people lost their lives in the February 6 Earthquakes, contractor Hacı Mehmet Ersoy was released from prison after 23 days on the grounds of 'senility.' However, documents submitted by another defendant strengthened the accusations.
The Palmiye Site, which collapsed in Kahramanmaraş during the February 6 Earthquakes, had become a grave for 150 people. Hacı Mehmet Ersoy, who is alleged to be one of the contractors of the site, denied the accusations during the first hearing of the case, claiming that he only showed the houses to potential buyers.
However, in the second hearing on December 26, 2024, the other defendant, Ali Babaoğlu, submitted documents to the court stating that the site was built together with Ersoy. Although Ersoy claimed that the signature on the documents did not belong to him, he was sent to prison.
REASON: 'SENILITY'
The lawyers for 81-year-old Ersoy appealed the detention on the grounds of 'senility.' After reviewing the medical report, the court ruled that Ersoy could not remain in prison and ordered his release.
Relatives of those who lost their lives at the Palmiye Site reacted to the release decision and called for justice.
