It had come up 'clean' in the report: Statement from the DMM regarding the criminal record of Selçuk Tengioğlu, who attacked Özgür Özel

After Selçuk Tengioğlu, a child murderer who attacked Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel, went to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) and made an assassination threat against İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, his criminal record (GBT) had come up 'clean'.

According to the report of the incident, following the report made by Selçuk Tengioğlu, who killed his own children, a GBT inquiry conducted by law enforcement officers resulted in a report stating that 'no negative situation was encountered in the individual's GBT inquiry'.

It was noted that in the İBB report, it was stated that Tengioğlu's statement was taken by the police, and that the GBT inquiry conducted by the police was reported as having no negative findings.

The Presidential Communications Directorate's Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) issued a statement on the matter.

In the statement, which indicated that the report claiming Tengioğlu's GBT had been deleted was disinformation, it was said, "It has been determined that the report shared in the news content does not belong to law enforcement units, but to a security company affiliated with the İBB Subsidiaries Coordination Directorate. It was determined that the individual named S.T. was not a wanted person during the GBT check conducted after his 2024 report, that he had a record for 'intentional homicide,' and that he had no record in the TEM archives, and the GBT information was recorded in the report. Contrary to what is alleged, there is no question of the individual's GBT being deleted in any way."

"Claims appearing in some media outlets that 'the GBT of S.T., who attacked Özgür Özel and was previously convicted of intentional murder, has been deleted' are not true.

It has been determined that S.T., who attacked CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, made an assassination threat against Ekrem İmamoğlu on December 16, 2024. The claims mentioned in the news in question, that a GBT inquiry was conducted by law enforcement officers after this report and that 'no negative situation was encountered,' are disinformation.

It has been determined that the report shared in the news content does not belong to law enforcement units, but to a security company affiliated with the İBB Subsidiaries Coordination Directorate.

It was determined that the individual named S.T. was not a wanted person during the GBT check conducted after his 2024 report, that he had a record for 'Intentional Homicide,' and that he had no record in the Counter-Terrorism Department (TEM) archives, and the GBT information was recorded in the report.

Contrary to what is alleged, there is no question of the individual's GBT being deleted in any way.
