It had made headlines with HIV and HPV! Health report requirement introduced for foreign students at Karabük University...

Posts on Instagram, X, and other social media platforms by Turkish male and female students claiming to have had sexual relations with African students on an account named "Karabük University Confession Page" had caused public outrage.

In the messages, it was alleged that some of the students had gone to the hospital with suspicions of HPV and HIV.

ALLEGATIONS WERE DENIED!

Following the posts, the Karabük Provincial Health Directorate issued a statement declaring that the allegations on social media did not reflect the truth and that there was no increase in HIV and HPV cases.

Karabük University also shared the statement on its social media account, denying the allegations.

HEALTH REPORT REQUIREMENT INTRODUCED FOR ENROLLMENT

University officials stated that they have taken a number of measures following the events.

According to the officials, the university has introduced a “mandatory Health Board Report for all foreign national students.”

University officials, providing information to Hürriyet, stated that they have introduced many new regulations regarding foreign national students and said the following:

“To prevent these rumors, with the decision we took in February 2024, we introduced a mandatory Health Board Report for all foreign national students who wish to enroll in our university. We have closed our enrollment to any student who does not obtain a Health Board Report or who carries any infectious disease. A second step is that previously, foreign national students were coming to the university using intermediary companies. This brought various rumors with it. To prevent this, we have now deactivated intermediary companies. We are now accepting foreign national students who are successful in the TR-YÖS exam conducted by ÖSYM and those who show success in the exam conducted by the university,” they said.
