According to data from AFAD, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Simav district of Kütahya at 02:54.

The tremor was felt in surrounding provinces as well as in Istanbul.

Prof. Dr. Naci Görür evaluated the earthquake, which caused panic.

In a post on his X account, Görür stated the following:

“A 5.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in Yemişli-Simav/Kütahya. Due to the westward escape of Western Anatolia, it is generally under N-S tension. As a result, E-W trending grabens are generally formed. The İzmir-Aydın-Bozdağ horst is very important. Along this horst, the hanging wall block moves northward along a listric fault. Due to differential friction, cross-grabens and horsts develop within this block and generate earthquakes. Therefore, the location of the earthquakes and the orientation of the fault planes are important. Otherwise, they lead to confusing interpretations.”
