'It was claimed that the cut columns had no effect on the building's collapse': Criminal complaint filed against the expert committee in the Ezgi Apartment case
A criminal complaint has been filed against the expert committee that prepared a report stating, "The column alleged to have been cut had no effect on the building's collapse," in the case of the Ezgi Apartment, which was destroyed in the February 6, 2023 earthquakes, resulting in the loss of 35 lives.
A criminal complaint has been filed against the expert committee in the case of the Ezgi Apartment, which was destroyed in the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023, and where 35 people lost their lives.
In the report it prepared, the expert committee concluded that "the column alleged to have been cut had no effect on the building's collapse," a finding that sparked significant public outcry.
Although it was determined that a column had been cut in the patisserie on the ground floor of the Ezgi Apartment, the expert committee argued that this situation had no impact on the building's collapse.
In the report prepared at the request of the Kahramanmaraş 4th High Criminal Court, the contractor Yakup Aktaş, who is being tried without arrest, and the static project author Kemal Türkarslan, who passed away 12 years ago, were identified as "primarily at fault," while no fault was attributed to the other defendants.

CRIMINAL COMPLAINT AND WITHDRAWAL OF EXPERTS
Following the reaction of those who lost their relatives in the Ezgi Apartment, lawyer Rezan Epözdemir filed a criminal complaint against the expert committee.
Stating that the report did not align with the evidence in the file or the report previously prepared by Karadeniz Technical University, Epözdemir requested that the expert committee be tried on charges of misconduct in office.
Meanwhile, on August 12, the expert committee submitted a petition to the Kahramanmaraş 4th High Criminal Court, stating that they wished to withdraw from the case due to the pressure they were subjected to in the public eye. The committee, which submitted the same petition to the Kahramanmaraş 5th High Criminal Court, withdrew from a total of 19 files.
EZGI APARTMENT CASE CONTINUES
The trial regarding the collapse of the Ezgi Apartment, in which 5 defendants are being tried—2 of whom are under arrest and 2 of whom are fugitives—continues at the Kahramanmaraş 4th High Criminal Court. The defendants are being tried for the crimes of "intentional killing and injury with possible intent" and "causing death and injury by conscious negligence."
The case will continue with the hearing to be held on October 4.
