İYİ Party: Add 30 billion lira to the budget for the repatriation of Syrians

A motion submitted by the İYİ Party to add 30 billion TL to the budget for the purpose of repatriating Syrian refugees was rejected by the votes of the AKP and MHP.

The İYİ Party submitted a motion to the 5th article of the budget proposal, requesting an additional 30 billion TL to be added to the budget "for the construction of 20 Repatriation Centers, each with a capacity of 10 thousand people, for the purpose of sending back temporary Syrian refugees." The motion was rejected by the partners of the People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı).

The following statements were included in the justification for the motion:

"After the start of the Syrian civil war, Turkey became the country hosting the highest number of refugees and illegal migrants in the world in 2015. The number of illegal migrants and refugees in Turkey is higher than the population of 97 countries in the world. According to the data of the Presidency of Migration Management, as of August 1, 2024, it was observed that there were 3 million 103 thousand 606 Syrians under temporary protection status in Turkey. Moreover, these data are not realistic. Because even the number of babies born in Turkey in the last 10 years alone is over 1 million. The İYİ Party estimates that there are over 5 million Syrian refugees in Turkey. According to data from Hacettepe University, the birth rate of Syrian refugees is 5.3 percent. For Turkish citizens, it is only 1.6 percent. Within 10 years, the number of Syrian refugees of Syrian nationality alone will exceed 20 million.

Turkey is facing an existential threat. Within the scope of our party's migration doctrine and strategic action plan, it is planned that the deportation procedures for illegal migrants will be completed within one year under any circumstances, and the return of those under temporary protection status will be completed within 3 years. As mentioned in our action plan, the evacuation of central provinces according to the determined density and the construction of 20 repatriation centers with a capacity of 10 thousand people each in these provinces, and the implementation of the necessary plans regarding the return, emerge as the most important measures."
