'İYİ Party is the party of the nation, not the leader,' he said, announcing his candidacy
İYİ Party Deputy Chairman Mehmet Tolga Akalın has announced his candidacy for the İYİ Party chairmanship at the convention to be held on April 27.
Having suffered a major disappointment in the March 31 elections, the İYİ Party will head to an extraordinary convention on April 27.
Following İYİ Party founding member and lawyer Günay Kodaz, İYİ Party Deputy Chairman Mehmet Tolga Akalın also announced that he would be a candidate at the convention.
Akalın made the following statement on his (X) Twitter account:
“The İYİ Party is the party of the nation, not the leader. We are coming to make Turkish nationalists the ruling power again after 100 years and to start the Turkish Age once more. With these feelings and thoughts, I invite my fellow party members to my press conference regarding the convention process and my candidacy for chairman, which I will hold at our headquarters on Monday, April 8, at 13:00.”

GÜNAY KODAZ HAD ALSO ANNOUNCED HER CANDIDACY
İYİ Party Founders' Board member and lawyer Günay Kodaz had announced in a post on her social media account a short while ago that she was a candidate for the İYİ Party chairmanship at the convention.
Kodaz had stated that under the leadership of Meral Akşener, the İYİ Party had drifted away from its founding purpose.
