İYİ Party Leader Dervişoğlu visits Mihalgazi Mayor Akgün

Dervişoğlu said, "I was deeply hurt that the issue was brought to this point through gender, beliefs, and clothing."

İYİ Party Leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu arrived in the Mihalgazi district of Eskişehir and visited Mayor Zeynep Güneş Akgün in her office. Dervişoğlu, who was welcomed in front of the municipality by AK Party Eskişehir Provincial Chair Gürhan Albayrak as well as Mayor Akgün, proceeded to the office to meet with Akgün.

Stating that these posts and expressions harm social unity, Müsavat Dervişoğlu said, "They leave negative marks on our future as much as they cause harm. There are responsibilities that must be undertaken so that those marks are not experienced and do not remain in our memory. Today, both our visit to you and the presence of the esteemed AK Party Provincial Chair Gürhan Bey here are highly gratifying for us, and I thank you very much. We expressed our sadness in the phone call we made last week. We also pointed out that such things should not happen. Furthermore, if we cannot show sensitivity today regarding the preservation of customs and traditions, we will not be able to leave a legacy for the future. Viewed from this perspective, our visit today is the fulfillment of a responsibility. I thank you again for your warm welcome, hospitality, and appreciation."

PREVIOUSLY RESIGNED FROM THE PARTY

Stating that Mehmet Emin Korkmaz, who made the posts on social media, has been expelled from their party, Dervişoğlu said the following:

"Something done by a deranged person... This individual had already resigned from our party before and returned four days later. In fact, if the procedure had been followed, the ability of someone who resigned to become a member again depends on the decision of the Provincial Presidency. That decision does not exist; we saw it when we referred him to the Disciplinary Board. We could have actually said, 'He is not even our member,' but ultimately, he does not hold any title. He is a regular member, but everyone writes whatever title they want or desire in those internet environment posts. I was deeply hurt that the issue was brought to this point through gender, beliefs, and clothing. Therefore, we made a joint decision with our friends that we needed to take a stance without delay. There is high political tension in Turkey. Political parties can be rivals to each other. If there is a government, there must also be an opposition for democracy to be democracy. But it should also be our duty to develop a language and discourse that can succeed in protecting common values. When looking at public opinion polls, the citizen's belief and trust in politicians is declining day by day. Therefore, the handicap stemming from the system permeates all areas of society. When the leader of an opposition party comes to visit an AK Party municipality, the fact that the Justice and Development Party's Provincial Chair is also there is, in fact, highly important from my perspective in terms of balancing political tension."

Mihalgazi Mayor Zeynep Güneş Akgün said, "A guest is a guest of God; you always have a place above our heads. Politics is an institution where different thoughts must be carried out in a pot.
