İYİ Party's Kavuncu reacts to Chief Advisor to the President Uçum's election date remarks: 'Then what you say is correct'

Speaking at his party's headquarters following the Presidential Council meeting, İYİ Party Spokesperson Buğra Kavuncu recalled that they will hold a rally at Tandoğan Square on Saturday, June 27, stating, "This gathering is a reaction to the impasse the Turkish nation has been forced into. We are going through a process where all our values regarding the Republic and our national identity are being targeted. It is not just the resolution and division process; the values that make our country a country, our nation a nation, and our state a state are being destroyed in every field. We invite our nation to this struggle, where the İYİ Party will take its place at the forefront with the Turkish flag."

Kavuncu pointed out that the document produced at the Law Workshop they held over the weekend will be followed up in three concrete monitoring layers in line with the instructions of Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu, saying, "The first of these is the monitoring commission. The second layer is the İYİ Party Group. The main headings of the vision document will be brought to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) by our group through legislative proposals, budget motions, and written parliamentary questions for every item. As the third layer, the decisions of the Venice Commission and the European Court of Human Rights will be included in the monitoring process as external reference points."

Addressing Chief Advisor to the President Mehmet Uçum's statement that "Our President does not need to be re-elected, but Turkey needs him," Kavuncu said, "When we heard this, these words spilled from our lips: 'His Majesty has graciously deigned to govern Turkey.' The fate of a single man has begun to be seen as above the fate of the country. We are facing such a mentality. Such arrogance has never been seen in the history of the country until today. Some are practically expressing a desire to govern Turkey as if they are doing us a favor."

"HE IS PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL OF THEM"

Reacting to Mehmet Uçum's comment in the same statement that "If the TBMM decides to renew the elections, the election will be held on Sunday, April 16, 2028, as required by law," Kavuncu noted the following:

"What does Turkey need, Mr. Uçum? Let us tell you here. Does it need inflation not to fall below 30 percent for 4 and a half years? Does it need 1 trillion 263 billion liras to be paid in interest in the first 5 months? Does it need companies to be seized as if they were being raided?

Does it need all kinds of political and legal pressure on the opposition? Does it need the right to protest to be trampled underfoot? Does it need ill-treatment, blackmail, and police batons? Does Turkey need theft, plunder, and nepotism? Or does Turkey need terrorists welcomed with drums and pipes; does it need the leader of a terrorist organization to be sanctified as if he were a hero and a leader of opinion?

If Turkey needs these, then what you say is correct; the address is President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. All of these and many more have taken place under the administration of the President. He is personally responsible for all of them.

Turkey cannot be governed with this mindset. This is the mindset that will bring Turkey to the brink of the abyss.

Trying to circumvent this law is not knowing the spirit of the law. Saying that the election should be held one month before the general election date is mocking the intelligence of this nation. This situation is merely ignoring the spirit of the law to pave the way for a single person."
