İYİ Party submits 'Grey Wolf' proposal to Parliament: 'Recognize it as a national symbol'
İYİ Party Hatay MP Adnan Şefik Çirkin has submitted a legislative proposal to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for the 'Grey Wolf' gesture to be officially recognized as the 'national symbol of the Turks'.
National football player Merih Demiral, who scored 2 goals against Austria in the EURO 2024 Round of 16, celebrated the victory by making the 'Grey Wolf' gesture.
The UEFA Disciplinary Committee launched an investigation into the 'Grey Wolf' celebration and handed Merih Demiral a 2-match suspension.
GREY WOLF MOVE FROM İYİ PARTY
While reactions to UEFA's decision poured in, a notable move came from the İYİ Party.
İYİ Party Hatay MP Adnan Şefik Çirkin submitted a legislative proposal for the 'Grey Wolf' gesture to be 'accepted as the national symbol of the Turks'.
"That the use of the Grey Wolf cannot be banned" was stated in Çirkin's proposal, which also noted, "that displaying the sign representing Turkishness in national and international activities, including cultural and sporting events, shall not constitute a punishable offense." the statements read.
