İYİ Party visits young detainees at Menemen T-Type Prison

The İYİ Party visited the young people who were detained during the protests in İzmir that followed the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. A delegation consisting of Provincial Chair Attorney Ülkü Doğan and Provincial Vice Chairs Attorney Murat Sevengül and Attorney Ali Barış Ercan also gathered information regarding allegations of mistreatment and torture of the detained youth.

'HAVING 35 PEOPLE STAY IN WARDS DESIGNED FOR 14 IS A VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS'

In a statement made after the visit, İYİ Party İzmir Provincial Chair Doğan said:
"As the İYİ Party, we stand against injustice and lawlessness in this process, just as we always do. Our fight against injustices continues. We do not accept the arrest of our young people for exercising their constitutional rights. We stand with our youth. At the same time, having 35 people stay in wards designed for 14, where young people are also held, is a situation that violates fundamental human rights. The poor conditions in the prison must be eliminated and the circumstances must be improved. As the İYİ Party İzmir Provincial Presidency, we will follow both the situation of our detained youth and the process of improving prison conditions."
