İYİ Party's Çömez reacts to Ali Erbaş's 'request for absolution': 'Go seek absolution from this innocent child first'
İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman and Balıkesir MP Op. Dr. Turhan Çömez criticized former Diyanet Affairs President Ali Erbaş.
The Diyanet had appointed Mufti İshak Yıldırım, who was arrested on charges of abusing a 12-year-old girl and released after 69 days, as a preacher.
Following Turhan Çömez bringing the matter to the Parliament's agenda, the court sentenced Yıldırım to 2 years and 3 months in prison.
İYİ Party's Turhan Çömez made a statement on his social media account following the prison sentence handed down to the mufti and reacted to former Diyanet President Ali Erbaş, who had signed the decision to appoint the harassing mufti as a preacher in Sinop.
Here is the statement made by Çömez:
"The man is a mufti in Eskişehir. When it was revealed that he abused a 12-year-old child, he was appointed as a preacher in Sinop. In other words, he was going to give sermons there and guide the public.
The person who made the appointment was former president Ali Erbaş.
I had brought this scandal to the Parliament's agenda. Today, the court sentenced this immoral person to 2 years and 3 months for the crime of 'serial sexual abuse'.
The man even abused the child in a tomb. When Ali Erbaş was retiring, he said, 'Grant me your absolution.' You go seek absolution from this innocent child first!"
