İYİ Party's Turhan Çömez claims 'trade with Israel continues'
Claiming that trade with Israel is still ongoing, İYİ Party's Turhan Çömez said, "Either the route is changed mid-voyage, or shipments are being made via Greece and Romania."
Before the local elections, protests against the AKP government due to the continuation of trade with Israel had dominated the agenda.
After the AKP suffered a defeat in the March 31 local elections, the Ministry of Trade announced that restrictions had been placed on exports to Israel. The ministry later announced that the export restrictions would be applied to all export and import products.
İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Turhan Çömez claimed that the shipment of goods to Israel is continuing. Çömez stated that ships departing from Turkey change their routes to Israel after stopping at ports in Greece and Romania.
Speaking to Emin Özgönül from Sözcü, Çömez said, "Either the route is changed mid-voyage, or shipments are continuing via Greece and Romania. We have received information and have serious suspicions regarding this matter. The government announced that trade with Israel has been completely banned, but the suspicion that the shipment of goods to Israel continues via different routes is no longer just a suspicion."
