Izmit Mayor Hürriyet suspended from office
Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet, the Mayor of Izmit district in Kocaeli, has been suspended from her duties as a temporary measure by the Ministry of Interior following her arrest as part of an ongoing investigation.
In a statement issued by the Ministry, it was recalled that Hürriyet was arrested by the decision of the Istanbul 7th Criminal Judgeship of Peace on charges of "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime," "rigging tenders of public institutions and organizations," and "bribery" as part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
The statement reported that Hürriyet was suspended from office as a temporary measure by the Ministry of Interior in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393.
