Japanese earthquake expert lists 'soft soil' areas in Istanbul one by one

Moriwaki met with business people at a hotel in the city during a seminar titled "Awareness and Consciousness Against Earthquakes" organized by a private company.

Speaking to journalists there, Moriwaki said that one must be prepared for a potential earthquake in Istanbul.

Stating that areas with soft soil are more affected by severe earthquakes, Moriwaki said, "The former Atatürk Airport, Ataköy, Küçükçekmece, Avcılar, and Büyükçekmece have very soft soil. We must prioritize work in areas with soft soil.

In hard ground, the earthquake travels quickly and does not cause as much wave impact, but if it is soft, the earthquake travels slowly and the wave impact is much greater.
