Joint call from CHP and MHP for military hospitals: 'It is of vital importance'

A joint call has come from the CHP and MHP for the reopening of 32 military hospitals that were closed following the coup attempt on July 15, 2016.

According to a report by Sözcü, MHP Kahramanmaraş Deputy and member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly's National Defense Commission, Zuhal Karakoç Dora, a partner in the People's Alliance, stated, “The reopening of military hospitals for security needs, the price of which has been paid with life and blood, is of vital importance.”

CHP Çanakkale Deputy Özgür Ceylan said, “Failing to utilize the experience of the military hospitals you closed and causing a potential increase in the number of our martyrs damages the reputation of our army.” CHP Kırşehir Deputy Metin İlhan also stated, “GATA was the most advanced training and treatment center; it housed training schools and two training and research hospitals at the level of a university hospital. It also had specialized hospitals. The re-establishment of the military health system is a necessity.”

TURKEY IS THE ONLY NATO COUNTRY WITHOUT A MILITARY HOSPITAL

While military hospitals have not been reopened despite criticisms over the past 8 years, Turkey remains the only NATO country without a military hospital.

While Austria, which has 34 thousand soldiers, has 3 military hospitals, Germany has 5 for 185 thousand soldiers, and France has 8 for 279 thousand soldiers. Even in countries with a low probability of war, such as Sweden, Norway, and Finland, there are military surgeons and military hospitals.
