Joint patrol by Turkey and Russia in northern Syria
Ministry of National Defense: Joint patrols have resumed in the Operation Peace Spring region with the participation of 4 vehicles and 24 personnel.
The Ministry of National Defense announced that the Joint Ground Patrol, which was conducted between Turkey and Russia in the Operation Peace Spring region and suspended on October 5, 2023, for security reasons, has resumed.
In a written statement issued by the Ministry of National Defense, it was recalled that the joint ground patrol activity is carried out in the west and east of the Operation Peace Spring region in accordance with the "Sochi Memorandum" signed between Turkey and the Russian Federation on October 22, 2019, and its implementation principles.
Stating that the first joint ground patrol activity was carried out on November 1, 2019, the statement noted the following:
"Until October 5, 2023, 344 joint ground patrol activities were conducted, and patrol activities were suspended due to the security situation in the region. The joint ground patrol activity carried out by Turkey and the Russian Federation was resumed on August 22, 2024, in the east of the Operation Peace Spring region with the participation of 4 vehicles (2 Pars, 2 Kirpi-2) and 24 personnel.
It is planned to continue the joint ground patrol activity in the subsequent period for the purposes of ensuring the security of our country's borders and the civilian population in the region, establishing stability in northern Syria, identifying control points, headquarters, and military structures belonging to the PKK/YPG-SDF terrorist organization that are required to withdraw from the region per the agreements Turkey reached with the USA and the Russian Federation, and demonstrating Turkish-Russian cooperation in the fight against terrorism."
