Joint proposal from AKP, MHP, and CHP for İlber Ortaylı: Accepted unanimously

The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality has named 84th Street in the Yücetepe neighborhood of Çankaya after the late renowned historian Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı. The decision was reached unanimously by the municipal council.

In the capital city of Ankara, one of the prominent streets has been named after Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı. The first meeting of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Council for the month of April was held at the Municipal Council Conference Hall, presided over by the First Deputy Speaker of the Council, Ertan Işık.

JOINT PROPOSAL FROM AKP, MHP, AND CHP MEMBERS

A proposal regarding the name of the historian and author Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı, who passed away last month in the hospital where he was receiving treatment, was brought to the agenda during the council meeting. Following a joint proposal submitted by members of the AKP, MHP, and CHP, the motion to rename 84th Street in the Yücetepe neighborhood of the Çankaya district to "Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı Street" was put to a vote. All 110 members of the council supported this change, ensuring the decision was passed unanimously.

In the same session, regulations were also made regarding the names of certain streets located in different parts of the capital. The decision to rename Çarşıyolu Street in the Emniyet neighborhood of the Yenimahalle district to "Ankaragücü Street" was also passed with the approval of all members.

ABB COUNCIL ALSO DISCUSSED INVESTMENTS AND PROJECTS

Not only name changes but also important transportation projects for the city were discussed at the meeting. The motion submitted by the presidency regarding the inclusion of the M5 Kızılay-Dikmen-Oran, M4 Şehitler-Forum rail system extension line, and the M2 Çayyolu and M3 Sincan rail system connection lines in the 2026 investment program was also passed unanimously by the council.

During the session, Kızılcahamam Mayor Süleyman Acar also voiced the problems faced by his district.
