Journalist Alican Uludağ: The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is the number one party responsible for the building collapse in Gebze
A 7-story building collapsed in the morning hours on Issıkgöl Street in the Mevlana neighborhood of Kocaeli's Gebze district. While the 18-year-old daughter of a 5-member family trapped under the building was rescued, the lifeless bodies of her two siblings were recovered. Journalist Alican Uludağ claimed in a post on his social media account that the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure bears responsibility for the collapsed building.
While various claims have been put forward regarding the cause of the building's collapse, a striking post came from Uludağ. Asking the question "Why are the authorities silent?" in his social media post, Uludağ stated the following:
"The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is the number one party responsible for the collapse of the 7-story building in Gebze...
Why are the authorities silent?
The 7-story Aslan Apartment in Kocaeli's Gebze district collapsed this morning at 06:57. The 5-member Bilir family remained under the rubble. The lifeless bodies of two of the family's children were recovered, while their 18-year-old older sister was rescued alive. The mother and father are still under the rubble.
The fact that a 12-year-old building collapsed despite there being no earthquake has raised questions. The authorities are silent. Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya, and the Kocaeli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office are silent.
There is a reason for this silence. Because the arrows point to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure as the party responsible for this destruction...
Right next to the collapsed building, there is a metro construction project tendered by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure to Eze İnşaat.
The station in the photo is the Akse Sapağı Metro Station. This station is a part of the Gebze-Darıca Metro. Its foundation was laid in 2018. The following information on the http://gebzedaricametro.com/tr website regarding the Akse Sapağı Station is noteworthy:
"Akse Sapağı is in a 'pivot zone' in Gebze and is a very busy area. The station is located at the beginning of Issıkgöl Street, on the north side. It is positioned between the Gebze Stadium and Courthouse stations. It is being built using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM). The depth of the station is 29 m, and the construction area is 5,802 m²."
In fact, this metro construction passes under the collapsed building, that is, under Issıkgöl Street, and goes to the Courthouse stop.
The emphasis that this station is being built with the New Austrian Tunneling Method is also important. This method is used especially for tunneling in rocky areas and has high risks. Serious precautions must be taken for this.
The reason for the collapse of the Arslan Apartment also appears to be the metro station construction next to it. The Kocaeli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office needs to stop the metro construction, have experts conduct an investigation in the area, and research the collapse claims.
However, the owner of the metro construction, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, is silent. He was only seen at the Republic Day events in Ankara. He did not make a statement.
On the other hand, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç has not yet announced that an investigation has been launched into the Ministry of Transport officials regarding the incident. Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya, to whom search and rescue operations are attached, also chose not to go to the region and not to make a statement.
If the incident had been in the CHP's area of responsibility, arrests would have been made long ago.
But in the collapse in Gebze, the government has shrouded itself in silence in the face of its own responsibility.
The company that collects public tenders in Kocaeli
Eze İnşaat received the tender for the Darıca-Gebze Metro construction during the term of former Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu. This company stands out in Kocaeli. DEM Party Kocaeli Deputy Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu pointed out in a parliamentary question he submitted in 2024 that EZE İnşaat has received many public tenders in Kocaeli. According to the motion, the construction company received the tenders for the Gebze-Darıca Metro line, the City Hospital tram, and the Körfezray. Gergerlioğlu asked the following two questions:
1) Considering the claims in the press that Eze İnşaat could not finish the Gebze-Darıca Metro and finished the Kocaeli City Hospital tram construction late, what is the reason for giving the Körfezray tender to Eze İnşaat?
2) On what dates did Eze İnşaat commit to finishing the Gebze-Darıca Metro project and the Kocaeli City Hospital tram project?
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is the number one party responsible for the collapse of the 7-story building in Gebze...
