Journalist Alican Uludağ being transferred to Ankara
It has been learned that journalist Alican Uludağ, who was arrested on charges of "publicly insulting the President," is being transferred from Silivri Prison, where he was being held, to Ankara.
Alican Uludağ was detained in Ankara on the evening of February 19 and brought to Istanbul.
In a statement issued by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was announced that an ex officio investigation had been launched against Alican Uludağ for the crimes of "Publicly Insulting the President" and "Publicly Spreading Misleading Information," and that he was detained in Ankara in accordance with the instructions.
Uludağ, who was brought from Ankara to Istanbul, was referred to the Istanbul Courthouse after giving his statement at the Istanbul Police Department.
ARRESTED FOR "INSULTING THE PRESIDENT"
Uludağ was arrested on February 20 by the judgeship he was brought before on charges of "publicly insulting the President."
Uludağ was first transferred to Metris Prison and then to Silivri on February 23.
HE WAS BEING HELD IN A TEMPORARY WARD
CHP leader Özgür Özel visited Uludağ yesterday (February 25) at the Marmara Prison in Silivri.
In a statement he made after the visit, he said that Uludağ was being held in a 10-person temporary ward with 25 people in Marmara Prison and was being deprived of his right to receive news and canteen services.
Following Özel's visit, Uludağ had been moved from the temporary ward to a 24-person ward.
Lawyer Hüseyin Ersöz had announced the development in a statement on his social media account.
