Journalist Furkan Karabay arrested
An arrest warrant has been issued for Gerçek Gündem editor Furkan Karabay, who was taken into custody.
Gerçek Gündem editor Furkan Karabay, who was summoned to the police station to receive a notification regarding him, was taken into custody yesterday and brought to the counter-terrorism branch at the Vatan Police Headquarters.
Karabay was accused of “targeting a person involved in the fight against terrorism” for writing the name of a prosecutor mentioned in a report in one of his news articles.
According to Gerçek Gündem, Karabay, who was allowed to meet with his lawyers hours after being detained, was referred to the duty magistrate judge with a request for his arrest following his statement at the prosecutor's office.
The court issued an arrest warrant for Karabay.
Karabay had been taken from his home by police force three weeks ago to provide a statement.
