The news of Karabay's detention was announced by journalist Barış Pehlivan.
Pehlivan stated the following in a post on his X account:
"Journalist Furkan Karabay has been detained. It is stated that the charges are “targeting individuals involved in counter-terrorism efforts” and “insulting the President.” It was learned that the grounds for this were a video he prepared for YouTube and his social media posts."
