Journalist Hakan Tosun's lawyer: His bag, which was said to be 'missing,' was found at the police station days later
Hakan Tosun's lawyer has made a statement regarding questions that have caused confusion during the investigation process. Lawyer Onur Cingil described the process regarding Tosun's bag, which was initially said to be 'missing' and turned up at the police station days later, as 'suspicious.'
Lawyer Onur Cingil, representing journalist Hakan Tosun who was beaten to death in the middle of the street, stated regarding the attack and its aftermath, "We are learning that a third person involved in the act during the incident was questioned at the police station as a witness.
We do not know where they are right now. Hakan's bag, which was said to be 'missing,' was found at the police station days later; it is suspicious. His ID and wallet are still missing. We see two separate attacks carried out at intervals in the records," he said.
According to the report by Çağdaş Bayraktar from Cumhuriyet, the family and lawyers of Hakan Tosun, who was beaten to death, held a press conference today to inform the public about the murder.
The press conference, held at the Karşı Sanat Merkezi in Beyoğlu, was attended by Tosun's sister Öznur Tosun, lawyers Onur Cingil and Hakan Bozyurt, as well as Istanbul Bar Association President İbrahim Kaboğlu. Sharing footage of the incident with the press, lawyer Bozyurt said, "It is clear even from the limited footage that this was a planned attack. The attackers know Hakan. They are acting very cold-bloodedly."
Lawyer Cingil drew attention to striking details that occurred during the process. Stating that the first procedure regarding the attack was carried out 17 hours later, lawyer Cingil said, "This duration coincides with us asking the question, 'What happened to Hakan Tosun?' This means that action was taken only after we asked this question."
"The prosecutor's office will decide whether there was negligence or intent in the process, but it is very clear that the process was conducted with a lack of seriousness," said lawyer Cingil, continuing his words as follows:
"There are more than 10 witnesses who saw the incident. Only three were questioned. On the other hand, we see that two of the three suspects were not initially taken into custody but were invited to the police station by phone. We are learning that a third person involved in the act during the incident was questioned at the police station as a witness. We do not know where they are right now. Hakan's bag, which was said to be 'missing,' was found at the police station days later; it is suspicious. His ID and wallet are still missing. We see two separate attacks carried out at intervals in the records. Perhaps there was even another attack before that. Friends who went to the scene to commemorate Tosun found Hakan's earring at the scene. In such cases, the most critical phase is the crime scene investigation, the collection of all evidence and findings. If this phase had been done correctly, we would not have to be talking about these things today."
