Journalist Hasan Cemal falls ill while on vacation: Brought to Bodrum by sea ambulance

Journalist and author Hasan Cemal suddenly fell ill yesterday evening on the Greek island of Leros, where he had gone for vacation. Initially taken to the hospital on the island, Cemal received treatment there. After doctors decided he should be transferred to Turkey, health authorities acted quickly.

TRANSPORTED TO BODRUM BY SEA AMBULANCE

Cemal was picked up from Leros by a specially equipped sea ambulance belonging to the Bodrum Sea Rescue Association and brought to Bodrum during the night. It was learned that Cemal was conscious upon his arrival at Milta Marina. Medical teams waiting at the port performed initial interventions before transferring the veteran journalist by ambulance to a private hospital in Bodrum.

OBSTRUCTION OF JOURNALISTS

During Cemal's arrival at the marina, members of the press attempting to cover the story faced off with private security guards at Milta Marina. The security guards, who wanted to prevent journalists from taking footage from the sea, intentionally rammed the press boat. Not stopping there, the guards also subjected the journalists to both verbal and physical intervention.

REACTION FROM MEMBERS OF THE PRESS

These interventions aimed at preventing the recording of footage drew reactions from the journalists at the scene. Condemning the aggressive behavior that prevented them from performing their duties, the members of the press stated that their professional rights had been violated and expressed their reaction to the marina authorities.
